Dry Bar Sake Bomb Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Dry Bar Sake Bomb

I’ve heard such great things about the Dry Bar Sake Bomb shampoo and conditioner, I knew I had to try it out for myself! As a girl with dry hair living in the desert, a high quality hydrating shampoo and conditioner is essential for me. I was using the IGK Hot Girls shampoo and conditioner before the Dry Bar Sake Bomb duo so I’ll make a few comparisons throughout my review.

The Dry Bar Sake Bomb shampoo is formulated to nourish dry hair. On the website description, it says it’s for medium to thick hair types. I would describe my hair type as fine-medium. I had no problems with the conditioner weighing my hair down. The sake bomb products can be used on all hair types including curly, coily, wavy, and straight hair. I have wavy hair and the conditioner works really well to detangle them. This duo is also safe for color treated hair.

Consistency

Shampoo

The consistency of the shampoo is actually pretty thick as far as shampoos go. The formula is very concentrated so I leave a little water in my hair when I squeeze it out before applying the shampoo. I thought the shampoo was very effective at cleansing my scalp without stripping my strands. My scalp never felt itchy or irritated after using it. Overall, I thought the shampoo was a winner.

Conditioner

The conditioner’s consistency was not all that different from the shampoo, just a leetle bit thicker. I’ve always followed the unspoken rule of leaving conditioner in while I wash my body, but sometimes the conditioner needed to sit in my hair longer. This Dry Bar Sake Bomb conditioner hydrates my hair, but just not as much as I would like it to. Sometimes my ends felt a little crispy. I could easily fix this with a little hair oil, but this wasn’t a problem I had when I was using the IGK Hot Girls conditioner.

*Update: I used to air dry my hair using the IGK rich kid coconut hair gel. When I stopped using the IGK gel, I did not have a problem with dry ends anymore. I thought the Dry Bar Sake Bomb conditioner wasn’t hydrating my hair enough, but now I’ve realized that the IGK gel was drying my ends out!

Dry Bar Sake Bomb

Scent

The scent of the Dry Bar Sake Bomb duo is very light. I really like the scent. It smells distantly like vanilla. This fragrance is not the type to linger on your hair after you wash it. I like it when I can smell my shampoo after washing, but I know a lot of people are sensitive to fragrances. The fragrance is described by Dry Bar as their original scent with notes of jasmine, sandalwood, and vanilla. As someone who loves sandalwood and vanilla together, this is a win for me.

Ingredients

The Dry Bar Sake Bomb shampoo and conditioner is formulated with watercress extract to strengthen dry hair and keratin, a moisturizing protein that helps hair grow stronger. This duo is formulated without sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and silicone. It is also cruelty free!

Price

The Dry Bar Sake Bomb shampoo and conditioner cost $26 each, for a total of $52. Each bottle has 8.5 ounces of product in it for ~$3.06 per ounce. This may sound pricey, but if you’re going to splurge on any hair care products, a high quality shampoo and conditioner will make the biggest difference in your hair health.

Packaging

The packaging of this shampoo and conditioner is so cute! Because Dry Bar is inspired by alcoholic beverages, this shampoo and conditioner is shaped like beverage bottles. The plastic is thin enough that it’s easy to squeeze out unlike the IGK Hot Girls conditioner where I was left vigorously shaking the product to get it out.

My only complaint with the packaging is that the shampoo and conditioner bottles look the same! As a person who needs glasses/contacts to see, I wish these bottles looked more diverse. Shampoo and conditioner bottles should not look exactly the same so that people who can’t see don’t have to put it super close to their face to read the label. I just can’t see, okay?!

Overall

I really enjoyed using the Dry Bar Sake Bomb shampoo and conditioner. Since I was already using a high quality shampoo and conditioner from IGK, I didn’t notice major differences when I started using the Dry Bar duo. The biggest differences I noticed were shiner and stronger hair. Overall, I have a slight preference for the IGK Hot Girls shampoo and conditioner, but I would definitely repurchase these!

For my next shampoo and conditioner trial, I’m trying to decide between Olaplex and Living Proof.

Have you tried any Dry Bar products?

It’s a shame the conditioner needed to be left on a little longer but it still sounds like you enjoyed these products – I agree the differences between the bottles could be a little clearer! I remember back in the newborn days, when I was out of hospital with baby I went to use my travel conditioner and I stopped as I realised I picked up the body wash instead (both I’d decanted into clear plastic bottles, both white liquids) and I wondered how many days I’d done that for and was washing my hair with body wash, ha!

Hope that you have had a good weekend! We had a picnic on Saturday taking advantage of the relaxed restrictions, and then had a lovely Mother’s Day 🙂

Overall, I really did like this shampoo and conditioner duo. I don’t understand why most hair care brands haven’t figured it out yet! I just can’t see in the shower haha. Omg that is so funny!!! I wonder how many days you washed your hair with body wash. Hopefully it wasn’t to hard on your hair haha! I hope you had a wonderful mothers day with your family!!

Thanks for sharing! I got a bunch of minis when I bought the Drybar Buttercup and have yet to try this shampoo. I have thin and oily hair so I think this might work for me. Haha I love your comment about the packaging. It seems like Drybar amps up the packaging for their dry shampoos all the time but rarely for their shampoo/conditioner which is a bummer.

Thanks S! Do you like the Dry Bar buttercup? I’ve always wanted to try it out. I need to try Dry Bar dry shampoos! Haha I can’t be the only one who has the problem telling my shampoo and conditioner apart in the shower lol!

Oooh! What an interesting name for a shampoo and conditioner! I’ve heard so many things about Dry Bar! I like that it works well with different types of hair. The price is pretty expensive but worth it if you’re going to go for something salon grade! Glad to hear that it worked out great! Thanks for sharing!

Isn’t the name so fun?! All the bar themed packaging and names is so cute. This was my first time trying out Dry Bar and overall I really loved it! I have heard super great things about their dry shampoo so I will have to give it a try soon. My wallet cries every time I buy shampoo and conditioner, but when I switched to salon grade shampoo and conditioner, I noticed such a big difference in my hair health!
