Urban Decay Ultraviolet Palette Review

Urban decay ultraviolet palette

I was craving a purple eyeshadow palette after seeing trending looks on Instagram so when I saw the Urban Decay Ultraviolet palette, I knew I needed to have it. Purple is one of those colors that can be low key AND vibrant at the same time. I’ve always loved Naked palettes and I just have to say right off the bat, this palette does not disappoint.

Shimmer Shades

The Urban Decay ultraviolet palette is composed of 9 shimmer shades. To the left of the palette, there is a very light sand colored shade “Trippin”. Then, two peachy/brown shimmer shades “Dazed” (peach gold) and V.R. (a warm brown with blue toned shimmer). In the center of the palette, there is a standout ice blue shade, “Lucid”. For mid toned purples, there is “Warning” (pink/purple), “Cyber Punk” (royal purple), and “Euphoric” (cool toned purple). To the very far right of the palette, you have the deep smokey purples, “Purple Dust” (a deep plum) and “Digital” (purple/brown).

I’ve always loved Urban Decay shimmery shades because they are fun without being too crazy. I would not describe any of these shades as “glittery” which is what makes them so perfect for everyday wear! The shades “Dazed” and “Warning” are made of a soft, velvety shadow that gives a stunning shimmery look. If you’ve ever tried Naked palettes, you’ll definitely notice that UD includes a couple of these velvet shimmers in every palette that keep you coming back for every Naked launch.

Matte Shades

While the shade is primarily composed of shimmer shades, the Urban Decay ultraviolet palette also includes 3 matte shades. The matte shades in this palette are pretty much just transition shades. In my opinion, the matte shades aren’t colorful enough to be worn on their own. This doesn’t bother me at all because I’m not really one to wear matte eyeshadows anyways.

Starting at the left of the palette, there is a peach matte “Mind Slip”, and a mid range brown color “Hacked”. Then, in the center of the palette, there is an isolated purple matte shade “Optimized”.

“Optimized” is a really awesome transition shade, but this is the only matte shade that I wish was more pigmented so it could be worn on it’s own. I tried to rock “Optimized” on it’s own one day, but the color is very faint so it wasn’t a particularly interesting look… but I think UD did intend it to be a transition shade so I can’t complain too much.

Standout Colors

I have to say, the two most unique shades I’ve ever seen from Urban Decay are “V.R” and “Lucid”. I’m obsessed with “V.R.” because I love the sexy brown color and the blue sparkle that pops up underneath makes such a unique combo! “Lucid” is such a fun icy blue that looks phenomenal when used as an inner corner pop. I wanted to use this shade as a lid color, but when I tried it, I realized that this type of color might be best suited for fair skin tones as opposed to my medium skin tone or darker. But like I said, I do really love this as an inner corner pop!

Performance

I used to think eyeshadow primer was unnecessary, but when I started using the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion, I became a primer believer. I always prep my eyeshadow looks with the UD primer potion and my eyeshadow stays intact all day long without creasing even when I’m using shimmer shades. The ultraviolet palette looks great without a primer, but the primer intensifies the color and wear of every eyeshadow look.

Price

The ultraviolet palette is $49 just like the other Naked palettes. For the quality of the eyeshadows, I think this price is fair! I’ve actually never hit pan on any of my Naked palettes so they tend to last quite a long time.

Packaging

The Urban Decay ultraviolet palette has the same magnetic plastic packaging as the Naked Honey and Naked Cherry palettes. I find the magnet very convenient because it opens easily while protecting the shadows inside. I have never had any problems with my Naked eyeshadows breaking or cracking. The fun purple cover of this palette is very representative of the colors inside.

All in all, this is another fantastic launch from Urban Decay. I have many UD palettes and this one does not disappoint. I have been reaching for the ultraviolet palette almost daily because the palette is pretty versatile! It is so easy to create a wide range of looks since the palette includes both peachy and purple shades. This palette is a banger for me!

I love the right hand side of this palette – but the left hand side I feel like I’ve got most of those shades 10 times over! I like the mix of more neutrals with the brights though

I really love the vibes of the ultraviolet palette from Urban Decay!! It looks gorgeous. The texture looks great as well – love the glitter and shimmer! All of the colors look great. Primers make a huge difference with eyeshadows. I started using it to bring out the eyeshadow even more. Glad you enjoyed it overall!! Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend 🙂
