The Neogen day light protection sunscreen is one of the best selling sunscreens at Soko Glam so I had to give it a try. This sunscreen is supposed to be friendly for sensitive and acne prone skin because it is silicone free. I am extremely picky about sunscreens because sun damage prevention is important to me. Let’s get into the review to see if this sunscreen lived up to my standards!
The Neogen sunscreen has a consistency that’s on the thicker side, much like a moderate weight moisturizer. The day light protection sunscreen feels a bit sticky and chalky on the skin when applied. This sunscreen has a luminous matte finish at first. As the day wears on, it begins to look dull.
I noticed when I used it with the Cosrx snail mucin essence, it pilled off the skin. I’ve never experienced any issues with pilling when using the Cosrx essence, but something about this sunscreen and the essence just didn’t mix. I tested this sunscreen with five different moisturizers and it pilled every single time unless I didn’t use the snail mucin. I found that this sunscreen worked best with the Good Molecules silicone-free priming moisturizer.
Since some people’s skin is sensitive to chemical sunscreen, I decided to order some mineral sunscreens from Soko Glam to review. I originally thought this sunscreen was a mineral sunscreen, but it turns out this sunscreen is actually a mineral and chemical blend. The mineral filters reflect UV rays away from the skin and the physical filters absorb UV rays so they don’t penetrate the skin. To learn more about sunscreen and filters, check out my post, a complete guide to sunscreen.
I prefer chemical sunscreens over mineral sunscreens because they don’t leave a white cast on the skin and they’re easier to blend in. The Neogen day light protection sunscreen doesn’t leave a white cast on the skin, but it doesn’t absorb as quickly in the skin as I would like it to.
One of the good things about this sunscreen is it’s fresh citrus scent. The Neogen sunscreen gets its scent from the various oils in the formula like orange and eucalyptus. I would not recommend this sunscreen if you are sensitive to fragrance or essential oils because the scent is moderately strong.
I was not impressed with the performance of the Neogen day light protection sunscreen. Between the pilling problem I had when using the snail mucin essence and the stickiness of the sunscreen, I really didn’t enjoy using this under makeup. Pilling is one of my biggest pet peeves and I prefer a glowy finish to my sunscreen to give me dewy makeup.
The Neogen sunscreen comes in an easy to squeeze tube. I didn’t experience any issues with the tube like leaking or the cap coming off. My only minor complaint is sand stuck to the label when I took it to the beach. Other than that, this tube was great!
The Neogen sunscreen retails for $30 at Soko Glam for 1.69 ounces. I usually like to spend between $10-30 on my sunscreen so this one fits in the budget. That being said, this is such an expensive price for a sunscreen I really disliked. I would be willing to spend that kind of money if I loved the product, but I feel disappointed that I wasted money on this.
Since I started using Korean sunscreens five years ago, there have been very few sunscreens I haven’t liked. The Neogen day light protection sunscreen was one of them. One of my favorite educators on Instagram @labmuffinbeautyscience, cosmetic chemist and chemistry professor, advocates for sunscreen usage. One of my favorite quotes from her is “The best sunscreen is the one you’ll use.”
It is important to wear sunscreen every day to prevent skin cancer. I genuinely hated applying this sunscreen so it definitely doesn’t make the cut especially when there are other sunscreens I love like the A’pieu pure block sun cream and the Biore watery essence sunscreen.

Oh no I’m sad to hear you didn’t like this sunscream.
I would wear my sunscreen under my make up so the pilling effect would of be a big no for me as well.
And I love how you always try different things with the products before to write a review.
xx

Thanks Margot <3 I absolutely hate pilling skincare most especially with sunscreen! Sunscreen is so essential for preventing skin cancer so the product better work and feel amazing too!

White casts are the worst! I didn’t have any issues with a white cast while using this sunscreen, but it did pill off my skin 🙁

Omg this sounds like a bad experience! Thankful I read it. I love using sunscreen every day. My fave right now is by Andalou Naturals which is smooth and sheer!

Pilling is so annoying! There are just so many other sunscreens out there that work way better under makeup to put up with something like this

Hello Jill!
First of all thanks for talking about the basics to understand how SPF works! I think this is one of the most important elements when it comes to having a healthy skincare routine, so understanding the basics facts is crucial!
First time I hear about this brand, but when it comes to suncreens there’s always room to try out new options! I loved the packaging and the price is not that much if you compare it with some similar options in the market. But sad to hear that it didn’t work with make up, I don’t face that specific problem but I try to go for “watery” options, specially to avoid having white stains over moustache/beard haha. But totally agree with the last sentence “the best suncreen is the one you’ll use”.
Stay safe 🙂

Hi Pablo! There are a lot of science things happening with sunscreen that are confusing to most people so I hope this made things a little easier to understand! I love other products from Neogen, but this sunscreen was very disappointing! Watery sunscreens are always a great option compared to greasy thick formulas. I can understand why you would avoid having a white cast on your facial hair haha!

Shame your experience with this wasn’t good. The peeling is definitely a no.
