The Living Proof PHD Shampoo and Conditioner is one of the best selling hair cleansing duos at Sephora. I’ve tried and loved some of Living Proof’s styling products (PHD Heat Styling Spray and Full Dry Volume Blast), but this is the first time I’ve ever tried their shampoo and conditioner. I have dry fine/medium wavy hair so I am very picky about hydrating shampoos. Let’s get into it!

Consistency

Shampoo

The Living Proof PHD shampoo has a very thick concentrated consistency. If you don’t squeeze your hair out before applying the shampoo, it is very easy to lather around the scalp. I like using this shampoo with my Briogeo scalp massaging brush to truly clean the buildup in my hair.

My hair feels really clean after washing it, however, the shampoo is just too moisturizing for me. I have fine/medium dry wavy hair that is easily weighed down by oils especially since my hair is pretty long now. When I was using the IGK hot girls duo or the Dry Bar sake bomb duo, my hair didn’t get greasy until day 3. With this Living Proof shampoo, it starts to get greasy the day after I wash it. I would only recommend this shampoo to those who have extremely thick, dry hair.

Conditioner

While I wasn’t a huge fan of the shampoo, I did enjoy the Living Proof PHD conditioner. The consistency is very thick; it’s almost mask-like. I always leave my conditioner in for a couple minutes. This conditioner made my hair very soft and I was impressed by how shiny my hair was after washing it. I only apply conditioner to the hair past my chin and just whatever is left on my hands to the hair on my scalp so it doesn’t get weighed down. 

Scent

Honestly, the fragrance of the Living Proof PHD shampoo and conditioner is the best thing about these products. All Living Proof products smell very clean and fresh. I would say the fresh smell is pretty unisex. The scent lingers in my hair after washing without being overpowering. If you’ve tried Living Proof, you’ll know exactly what scent I’m talking about!

Price

The Living Proof PHD shampoo and conditioner are $28 each for a total of $56 for the set. Each bottle has 8 ounces in it ($3.5 per ounce). This is on the pricier side even for a high end shampoo and conditioner. Since I didn’t love this set, I really can’t see myself repurchasing this.

Packaging

This Living Proof PHD duo has sleek grey packaging that is easy to use. The bottles can be stored easily upside down to get the last bit of product so you don’t have to fight for the final drops. These bottles are also recyclable! 

I complain about this with most shampoo and conditioner duos, but I hate that the bottles look exactly the same! I can’t tell the difference in the shower without putting the bottles inches from my face because I wear glasses/contacts! Other than that, the packaging design is pretty good.

Results

Overall, I really enjoyed the conditioner, but the shampoo just wasn’t my jam. Living Proof claims that you won’t have to wash your hair as often using these products, but for me, I had to wash my hair more often. My hair didn’t feel dirty per se, just very weighed down by oils. I can’t see myself repurchasing these, but I would recommend these products to those who have very dry, thick, coarse hair.
