Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen Review

Beauty of Joseon sunscreen

The Beauty of Joseon sunscreen went mega viral on Tiktok for its lightweight formula and lack of white cast! Since I was already a fan of the brand, I couldn’t wait to try it out for myself. Let’s see if the Beauty of Joseon relief sunscreen lives up to the Tiktok hype!

Consistency

The Beauty of Joseon sunscreen has a lightweight cream consistency that glides easily on the skin. This texture is impressive because it feels hydrating, but absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel even a little bit greasy on the skin. Beauty of Joseon says you can skip your moisturizer and just use this sunscreen if you have an oily skin type.

For my dry skin, I always prep with a moisturizer like the Cosrx cica intense cream before applying. I’ve really enjoyed using it throughout winter and I know I won’t find it too heavy for summer months either.

Type of Sunscreen

The relief sunscreen is a chemical sunscreen using the following filters: Ethylhexyl Triazone, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone, Methylene Bis-benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the UV rays so they don’t penetrate deeper into the skin and damage it. This sunscreen has a SPF of 50+ which fits with the dermatologist recommended SPF range of 30-50.

I personally prefer chemical sunscreens over mineral sunscreens because they don’t have a white cast. This chemical sunscreen from Beauty of Joseon doesn’t have a white cast on my light-medium skin which I absolutely love! Highlighted Ingredients

Rice extract- this sunscreen is formulated with 30% rice extract. According to the brand, rice is rich in amino acids and minerals that hydrate dry skin. Rice is also brightening for the skin too! I’ve enjoyed many Asian Beauty products with rice extract as a gentle brightener that doesn’t irritate my dry skin.

Scent

Folks sensitive to fragrance rejoice! The Beauty of Joseon sunscreen has no fragrance or essential oils. I don’t detect any scents during application either which is extremely rare cause most sunscreens have that “sunscreen-y odor”.

How does it perform under makeup?

I’m happy to report the relief sunscreen works really well under makeup with no pilling! I do like my makeup to have a dewy glow so I like to use the Laura Mercier hydrating primer to give me a little extra dew since this sunscreen has more of a luminous matte finish. However, it totally depends on your preference and skin type if you need to use a primer.

Price

The Beauty of Joseon sunscreen retails for $18 for 1.69 oz on their website (they also sell a double pack if you’re in love with this sunscreen). You can also find this sunscreen at Stylevana and YesStyle. For my sunscreen budget, I like to stay under $25 so this BOJ sunscreen fits right into my budget.

Packaging

The BOJ relief sunscreen comes in an easy to squeeze tube. I haven’t had any issues with the cap falling off or leaking so no complaints in this department.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen deserves all the hype and more! I love the hydrating, yet lightweight formula that has no white cast on my skin. I think what’s extra special about this sunscreen is all skin types would enjoy it (unless you’re sensitive to chemical sunscreen, but I found this sunscreen gentle and non-irritating). I also loved the rice extract in the formula. I will absolutely be repurchasing the Beauty of Joseon relief sunscreen!

If you’re looking to try more from the brand, I highly recommend their centella asiatica calming mask. It’s my favorite sheet mask of all time (this is saying a lot because I’ve tried a plethora of sheet masks). I also love their revive serum (formerly known as repair serum). I’m currently testing out their dynasty cream which I’ll review here soon!

*For those who already love the Beauty of Joseon relief sunscreen, they just recently launched a stick formula for reapplication which you can check out here.

Have you tried anything from Beauty of Joseon?

Hey Jill, I hope everything is going well and your side. Even tho I see your news and reviews on Instagram, I like to come to the blog for all the details and also to see the photos you take… you are super good at styling the products tho 🙂

I am always looking for sunscreen, sometimes I need to adjust my budget when it comes to beauty purchases but sunscreen will never go out of that list.

For me the most important part is the texture, so this one could work! Then if talk about the composition and the price, I’d say it is on the same level that other similar products available in the market, right?

Same as you, I prefer chemical sunscreen tho 🙂

Sounds like an amazing sunscreen! I love that you can wear it without moisturiser, because I find that sunscreen + moisturiser together make my skin shine too much, especially in the summer.
This seems like a winner! Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🙂
