The Live Tinted Hueguard sunscreen is designed to be a mineral sunscreen without a white cast suitable to all skin tones. I’ve heard great things about this sunscreen so I couldn’t wait to try it on my own skin even though I prefer chemical sunscreens over mineral. Let’s see if the Live Tinted Hueguard lives up to the hype!
The Live Tinted Hueguard sunscreen has a lightweight cream consistency that blends easily into the skin. The main reason I avoid mineral sunscreens is the white cast. The tinted mineral sunscreens I’ve tried in the past always feel and look makeup-y to me which I don’t like. This tinted sunscreen impressed me because it absorbs well into the skin without leaving a tinted, makeup-y finish. I also like that this tinted sunscreen doesn’t transfer to my clothes like many other tinted sunscreens do.
It doesn’t leave a white cast on my light-medium skin tone. If you’re interested in trying this sunscreen out, I’d highly recommend finding a video on Instagram or Tiktok of someone with a similar skin tone to you trying on Hueguard to see if it has a white cast on them before purchasing!
I used this sunscreen over my favorite moisturizer, the Cosrx cica intense cream. I was surprised to find my skin felt parched and tight about 30 minutes after applying this sunscreen. It feels hydrating upon application so I was very displeased by the tightness. I live in a dry desert climate and I have a dry skin type so my skin needs a lot of hydration to thrive. I got to test this sunscreen out in a more humid climate in San Diego and I did not experience any dryness or tightness.
Hueguard is a mineral sunscreen that uses zinc oxide to protect the skin against the sun. Mineral sunscreens work by reflecting UV rays away from the skin’s surface. Mineral sunscreens are great for those with sensitive skin, however, they often cause a white cast which can be annoying for those with darker skin tones. Hueguard has a tinted formula that is designed to prevent leaving a white cast on darker skin tones. This sunscreen has a SPF of 30 which fits with the dermatologist recommended SPF range of 30-50.To read more about sunscreen, check out my post “A Complete Guide to Sunscreen”.
The Live Tinted Hueguard sunscreen is formulated without fragrance and I detect no fragrance upon application. Between the lack of fragrance and the mineral formula, this would be a good option for those with sensitive skin.
I am happy to report Hueguard did not pill under makeup! It works as a nice moisturizing base if you apply your makeup within 30 minutes of application. As I mentioned earlier, I did feel dry after about 30 minutes in my home climate so I like using the Laura Mercier hydrating primer as a dewy base if Hueguard has fully dried into my skin.
The Live Tinted Hueguard is on the pricier side for sunscreen. Hueguard retails for $32 for 1.7 oz on the Live Tinted website. I like to stay under $25 for sunscreens especially since I go through tubes very quickly with daily application. Since this sunscreen made my skin feel dry and tight in my home desert climate, I can’t say I’m in any particular rush to repurchase this sunscreen especially for the price.
This sunscreen comes in an easy-to-pump tube. I took this with me on a plane to San Diego and I didn’t have any issues with spillage or the protective cap coming off in my bag. No complaints in this department!
Overall, I think the Live Tinted Hueguard sunscreen is just okay. I was impressed that this mineral sunscreen didn’t leave a white cast or makeup-y finish on my skin, but I was really unhappy that it dried out my skin 30 minutes after application. You might like this sunscreen if you have oily skin or live in a humid climate, but I just didn’t love it for my dry skin type in a dry climate.

Hey Jill! Hope you’re having a nice summer!
Glad to see a new one over here!
I think I saw a bit of this product on your Instagram, however the detailed review is always nice to read 🙂
First of all I think the packaging is divine, specially for the color they used. I have to admit I don’t use a lot of tinted sunscreen, I used one by Isdin many years ago tho. However it seems that is not the most friendly budget option in the market, but I imagine if it leaves no casts and if performs well under make up that could be a really interesting option for many people.
Right now I am eager to try a sunscreen from Standard Procedure, I have heard many interesting things about the brand and I am eager to try something new *_*

I always appreciate your honest reviews, Jillian! I am so sorry it felt really tight after 30 minutes or so, that would definitely be uncomfortable. I have dry skin too, so this would likely not be the best option for me either, especially with it being pricey.
Hope you have a fantastic rest of your day! 🙂
