April Beauty Reviews

When I started blogging at the beginning of this year, I started doing favorite product posts every month. Since I only post once a week, every fourth post was a favorites post and I decided that was a little excessive haha. This post is not a collection of my favorites, but simply reviews of the products I’ve been trying in the last four months.

-Ole Henriksen Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner ($28)

This product was made specifically for lightening dark spots that come with age, but I had heard good things about the product’s effect on acne scars as well. When I started using this product, my T zone looked great and ultra clear, however, I started getting really big zits on my cheeks. I switched to using this product every other day in hopes that I would get the clear skin without the breakouts, but I had no luck in getting rid of the breakouts until I stopped using it. I think this is a good product, but it just wasn’t a good fit for my dry skin.

If you don’t have dry or sensitive skin, I think this product would be worth a try. Even when I was getting the breakouts on my cheeks, the scars would fade very quickly. The toner has a lemonade scent and it stings a little bit upon application.

-Colourpop Super Shock Shadows ($6)

I got 4 of these shadows about a couple months ago because I wanted to experiment with more colored shadows without buying an entire palette. I got the colors IRL (a green-gold color), whittle (purple), coconut (blue), and sequin (rose gold). The shadows are very velvety and very sparkly. I’m pretty sure all of the super shock shadows are glittery like this.

I have kind of mixed feelings about these shadows. I had really wanted them to be a solid wash of color, but they’re more like a sheer glitter. The colors are shown in the reflection of the glitter as opposed to a solid pigment. The other thing I don’t like about these shadows is they crease a lot throughout the day. They do stay on better if they’re prepped with concealer on the lids prior to application. My favorite color is sequin (rose gold), I get a lot of compliments when I wear it. The other colors are nothing special.

-Mally Beauty High Shine Liquid Lipstick ($20)

I received this product in my Allure beauty box a few months ago and I was extremely disappointed with it. I thought it would be great like the Mally Beauty eyeshadow stick that I have and love, but it was quite the opposite. The color I have is a dark red. The formula is more like a gloss than a lipstick, there’s really nothing wrong with the formula. The applicator is really what ruined this product. The applicator is similar to a nail polish brush which is horrible for applying a dark color because it lacks precision. The bristles stick out like the bristles of an old broom. Maybe if they changed the applicator I would be willing to give this product another try, but I really wasn’t impressed.

-Everyone Lotion ($6)

I typically stick to body butters because of my dry skin, but I decided to give this lotion a try. The texture is on the thinner side without being too liquidy and I was pretty shocked to find that it was moisturizing enough for my dry skin! I got the scent in apricot vanilla and it’s quite nice. The lotion is technically a 3-in-1 for you hands, body, and face, but I would never use a body lotion on my face… I think it’s a great lotion and if you hate feeling greasy post lotion application, this would be a good option for you to try.

-The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23%+ HA Spheres 2%

I used to use Milk Makeup’s brightening serum for my skin’s vitamin C source, but I switched to the ordinary’s vitamin C because I was tired of spending $36 for a stick of serum every 1 ½ months. The Ordinary’s vitamin C is only $6 and one tube has lasted me more than two months (I still haven’t finished the tube I started using in February)! This serum has a way higher concentration of vitamin c than the last serum I was using and my skin looks significantly brighter.

I use a pea sized amount of this serum with two drops of The Ordinary hyaluronic acid serum and mix them together. I would not recommend using this serum without the hyaluronic acid serum mixed with it because the serum on its on own has a gritty texture. I also would be careful about using too much of these serums because they can tend to pill off your skin if you use too much. This doesn’t bother me at all mainly due to the price point and I think these are really great serums, you just have to make sure you don’t use too much.

Have a great day! 🙂

*PS: What do you guys think of the cover photo? I don’t think it looks too bad for an iPhone picture

ooh I started using this Ole Henriksen toner too! It is a tad on the harsher side but I do like it mind you! I only use it at night and use the FRESH rose toner in the morning instead!

I wish the Ole toner had worked for my skin! I haven’t tried the FRESH toner, but I’d love to try it in the future!
