As Laneige is one of my favorite brands, I had to try the new Laneige Hydro UV Defense sunscreen. I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this one since I hadn’t seen any reviews on it prior to buying. I’m extremely picky about sunscreens (well, if I’m being honest, I’m extremely picky about all skincare lol). Here’s my thoughts on this new launch!
The Laneige Hydro UV Defense sunscreen has a rich and creamy texture that deeply hydrates the skin. As someone with dry skin, I love layering hydration in my routine so I was all about this hydrating texture. While this sunscreen is quite thick, it doesn’t feel greasy on my skin. I genuinely looked forward to applying this sunscreen in the morning because it felt like my skin was getting a little hug lol! I love using this sunscreen over the Cosrx cica intense cream for maximum hydration for daytime.
*If you have oily or combo skin, this sunscreen is rich enough for you to forgo moisturizer underneath.
This Laneige sunscreen is a chemical sunscreen which means the active ingredients absorb the UV rays so they don’t penetrate and damage the skin. The active ingredients in this sunscreen are avobenzone, homosalate, octocrylene, and octisalate. I prefer chemical sunscreens like this one over mineral sunscreens because they don’t leave a white cast on the skin. I had no issues with this sunscreen leaving a white cast on my medium toned skin! This sunscreen has a SPF of 50+ which fits with the dermatologist recommended SPF range of 30-50.
Centella Asiatica- soothes redness and irritation. This is one of my favorite ingredients commonly found in Korean skincare.
Glycerin and Hydro Ionized Mineral Water- moisturize and plump the skin barrier
The Laneige Hydro UV defense sunscreen has a very faint “sunscreen” scent. It is formulated with fragrance, but it’s not overpowering whatsoever. The scent fades as soon as it’s applied to the skin. I don’t think this sunscreen would bother anyone who is sensitive to fragrance.
The Laneige sunscreen acts as a lovely makeup primer with its dewy finish. I prefer a dewy, natural look for my makeup so this sunscreen gives me the perfect prep for days when I’m wearing foundation. This sunscreen does not pill when used with makeup!
While I love just about everything about this sunscreen, I hate that it retails for $30 for 1.6 fl oz at Sephora. This formula is really quite lovely, but most Korean sunscreens are available for under $20 for equally great formulas. The sunscreen is definitely worth paying the price, I just think it could be cheaper…
Overall, I really love the Laneige Hydro UV Defense sunscreen. My dry skin loves the rich, creamy formula. I also adore the glowy finish it leaves upon my skin. My only complaints are the price and if I’m not careful avoiding my eyelashes during application, it stings my eyes quite a bit. Aside from those two details, this sunscreen is one of my favorite sunscreens for dry skin I’ve ever tried. I’m already on my second tube.
Have you tried any products from Laneige? Would you spend $30 on sunscreen?

I am the same way. When I wear makeup I like a natural finish. And it is great you can wear this under makeup without it effecting the consistency. This product sounds like a great one to try out. I love the chicness of the packaging as well. https://www.bauchlefashion.com/2022/08/how-5-iconic-fall-pieces-have-become-my.html

It sounds great but the price I’m not sure about. I do pay about that price for my Australian sunscreen though.

Hey Jill, I hope you’re having a good summer and thanks for your comment on my latest blog post! Happy to know that this blog post was useful for you, I know working as a creative could be draining sometimes!
And I really like Laneige, I haven’t tried the brand yet but I have heard so many good comments about it. And also the packaging and all the graphic design used by the brand caught my eye.
This sounds like the perfect sunscreen for many people: people like me who are looking for chemical spf that are not greasy, people who use make up or people with dry skin looking for a hydration boost.
Added to my beauty wishlist on Chrome. Maybe the price is not that competitive if you compare it with other similar spf’s in the market, but I should give it a try 😉
Take care!
